FAQ

Let me answer your questions

How many wedding photographs should I expect for the full day package?

At least 600, sometimes as much as 1,000+ You receive an additional 50+ edited photos which include black and white.

What size are the JPEGS?

The dimensions are 3008 x 2000 at 300 dpi and they are over 6MB in size.

Do I have to wait months to get my photos?

No. You can see the best edited photos online within a few weeks of your wedding. I create a video and post it on your unique page on my website. You will receive your flash drive with the photos within a month of your wedding.

Can I order a digital storybook album?

Yes, starting from only £350.  This is paid for at the time of ordering and whatever the price is then, that is the price you pay, especially if you order the album 6 months after your wedding.

Explain your approach to wedding photography.

I will take great photos of your wedding, and you won’t even notice I am there.  I will try not impose myself or take longer than necessary.

Why do you like shooting weddings?

A famous photographer once said;  "I have to be a portrait photographer, landscape photographer, fashion photographer and photojournalist all within a few hours of a wedding day".

To me, photographing a wedding is not just another day at the office. I like to document each event and tell the real story of your wedding day.

What is your photographic style?

I practice photojournalism (also called documentary or reportage photography), which is "capturing" the image, not "creating" it. My objective is to tell the story of the wedding using the camera. I like to set up as few shots as possible, remaining unobtrusive. However, I will usually get in the midst of the fun at some points too. I like to photograph people, emotions, and the details of your wedding day. All you need to do for most of the day is to act naturally and enjoy being the centre of attention.

Would you call yourself a traditional photographer or a photojournalist?

Neither, I am a combination photographer, but secretly 51/49 in favour of being a photojournalist.

We want something contemporary but our parents want some traditional posed photos too. Can you do both?

Yes I can - I enjoy shooting documentary style and taking formal portraits.

What is included in the wedding day?

Very simply I would normally cover the following - preparations at the bride's house, the groom and family at the ceremony beforehand, the guests arriving, the bride arriving, discrete shots of the ceremony (if permitted by the minister or registrar), the signing of the register, the couple leaving, group shots of the immediate families and a private moment with just the couple, shots at the reception including guests mingling, the cutting of the cake, the speeches, toasts and first few dances. All shot with a little creative flair and an eye for the spontaneous moment.

Can I print the photos in black and white, sepia, with borders, in the shape of a love heart etc?

Yes, if you have a computer with even the basic photo suite software, your imagination is your limit.

What is the latest I can book you?

The day before your wedding.

Can you work from a photo checklist I provide you?

Of course.  I have many ideas for photos and a great eye for a shot, but sometimes to work with a checklist helps me to help you. â€‹

What time will you begin and how long will you stay until?

I will start at least an hour before the ceremony and can meet you either at your house as you get ready or at the church.  You can book me for either 3 or 4 hours or the full day up until the first few dances. Very rarely I stay until the last dance at midnight.

How will you be dressed?

In my kilt, jacket and bow tie and sturdy shoes, unless it is inclement weather when I will be wearing a suit.

Do you keep a backup of all the photos?

Yes.

Are you a member of a professional association?

Yes, the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

Can you work within my budget?

Yes, I want to be part of your big day and give you plenty of memories to share for the rest of your life, so I can be flexible.

Do you require a deposit to secure the date?

The deposit is £150 and can be paid via Paypal or bank transfer.

What areas do you cover?

I can travel anywhere in Scotland, and beyond.

What has been your biggest wedding?

One of the first I photographed with over 300 guests.

What has been the smallest wedding?

I have done a wedding with only 15 guests.  I took some of my best photos that day, it was very relaxed.

How long have you been a professional photographer for?

For almost 20 years.  I started off dong my friend's and relatives weddings and I did such a good job they all encouraged me to do it professionally.

Have you any qualifications relating to photography?

Yes, I have a Licentiateship from the Society of Wedding Photographers, a Licentiateship from the British Professional Photographers Association, and I am a Craftsman member of the Guild of Wedding Photographers.

Are you easy to work with?

I am very relaxed and never allow myself to get stressed.  You will be smiling all day.  You will be spending all day with me so it is important that our personalities do not clash.

Can you make my day even more special?

Of course, when you think about your wedding day, you will always think back how professional and relaxed your photographer was.

My auntie may want a photo of her family whom she has not seen in ten years, would this be a problem?

Of course not.  What better time to take a family photo than when the family are all dressed up, smiling and relaxed.  As long as it doesn't distract me from my main duties.

Would you expect to be provided with a meal on the day?

Yes. If I have a meal, it is in my best interests to follow the schedule, and not waste time, because I will be hungry also!

Do you do bridal and engagement portraits?

Yes, but I suggest booking this at least two months before the big day.

Can you do post wedding shoots?

Yes, I have done many trash the gown sessions and portraits in parks after the wedding day.

Have you had any complaints from previous clients?

None.

How do I contact you?

Email me at john@jn74.com or phone me on 07974 680 622.

Can you come and visit me at my house?

Yes, at a time that suits you.
